Hey, Senpai!

S/mileage Major Debut Confirmed

Posted on: April 3, 2010

Tsunku appeared at the Mano Erina & S/mileage concert today to personally deliver the message that S/mileage will make their major debut. “Yume Miru 15sai”, their first major single, will street on May 26th, three weeks after Momoiro Clover and Tokyo Girls Style’s debut releases and one week after TGS’s second single.

While S/mileage is the last of the three groups to release a major single, they are very well poised in terms of publicity. Ogawa Saki has been promoted from a Mushi Girl to an Oha Girl on Oha Suta, a position that has previously been a springboard for such well-known talents as Aya Ueto. Not to be outdone, it was recently announced that Wada Ayaka, Maeda Yuuka, and Fukuda Kanon will be providing the voices for the three main characters in the new anime Lilipuri to begin airing on TV Tokyo this Sunday from 9-9:30 AM (scroll down on the linked page to see them cosplaying their characters!). In addition, the entire group will star in a stage play this August and their first solo tour will begin in October.

This is the most aggressive marketing of a group we’ve seen out of Hello! Project for a long time. Whether it’s part of a Project-wide push or stemming from the rivalry between managers and their groups, we are seeing similar pushes begin with other groups as well. In the past week, regular TV shows have been announced for both Michishige Sayumi and Tanaka Reina of Morning Musume, and a new radio show has been announced for Takahashi Ai. It’s an exciting time to be a fan, and one can only hope that the promotion that these girls have enjoyed will be expanded to include more of the H!P Kids and 8th gen Musume, who seem to get the short end of the stick time and again with these initiatives.

I would also like to add that ever since Elder Club graduated, there seem to be more of a concerted effort in the promotion department.

And thankfully, UFA/H!P is not challenging AKB48 on the same ground. H!P is paving their own path to unknown territories.

Its a exciting time to be a fan as all the promotion so far has been win !

( Love your blog btw. An objective view of H!P is very rare these days. H!O has too many people who are too attached to the old H!P)

So what panel are you running on Thursday of the con?

I ran the Intro to Idol Pop panel. Reg had a few hiccups so not a lot of folks were able to make it but that’s fine as I wasn’t as prepared as I wanted to be. I’ll probably see if I can run a similar panel at K-Fest.
